Dojo Kune: Honesty, Safety and Respect
  • Basic Dojo Rules
  • Yellow stripe (respect) -  foot stances, Dojo Kune, Karate punches in Shiko-Dachi, good manners, grades and
    attendance.
  • Blue stripe (honesty) - above plus: front kick, front roll, sparring head blocks.
  • Green stripe(safety) - above plus: grappling positions, single Sinawali (no sticks), all Karate blocks and Ichi Zuki
    Kata.
  • Red stripe(discipline) - above plus: vocabulary test (oral),ukemi/shoulder roll,Shiko-dachi punches/push-ups for
    2min., round kick.
  • Yellow Belt - above plus: Upa, back roll, elbows and Shuto Godan Henka Kata and Jr. fitness test (3 push-ups, 15
    sit-ups and 15 Dojo laps in 3 min).
  • Yellow/white - above plus: single sinawali with sticks, basic sparring 2 minutes, very good Dojo manners and
    jab/cross and maintain fitness.
  • with up to 4 stripes - see instructor- some requirements are: Fitness test, knees, responsibility patch and more...
Blue Dragons
  • Yellow belt- Ichi Zuki Kata, Shuto Godan Henka, Dojo Kune, front and round kick, grappling positions,
    stances, Karate punches, front roll and tie uniform correctly.
  • Yellow w/white- above plus improved Kata, Vocabulary test (oral), Basic Sparring 3 min., Pass guard, all
    Karate blocks, basic jab/cross combo.
  • Orange belt- above plus: Ukemi/shoulder roll, back roll, Single Sinawali, elbows, shiko-dachi punches with
    push-ups 3 minutes.
  • Orange w/white- above plus: self-defense grab and release, 2 take-downs or throws, hold all grappling
    positions.
  • Purple belt- above plus: Tomeshiwari, Martial Arts quiz, Community service patch, intermed. sparring 5
    minutes, Improved all Katas, double Sinawali, tie belt correctly, Thai knees, better foot work and sparring
    stance, Jr. Fitness test-5 push-ups, 25 sit ups, 35 laps in under 5 min. (Elite=40 laps:)

All students must:

  • Bow when entering or leaving the matted training area
  • Show up on time and ready to train
  • No shoes on the Dojo floor
  • Follow “the golden Rule”
  • Any type of prejudices (race, orientation, religion, sex, size or
    social status) will not be tolerated in the Dojo
  • Hands to yourself unless training with a partner
  • Keep your things neatly with your shoes
  • No eating or chewing gum in class or near the mats
  • No bad words, abusive or threatening language
  • No rough play or goofing off while training, especially with
    techniques and weapons
  • Weapons used for demo team are only to be taken to and from class
    to home
  • Never use martial art techniques outside of class except for
    defense, competition or demonstrations
  • Uniform(Gi) must be clean and worn during class
  • Grades must be kept up
  • No playing on or with any Dojo equipment without permission
  • Always answer instructors with “OSU” or “yes, Sensei”, “No,
    Sensei” ….
  • Students not attending at least 2/3 of classes, not bringing needed
    equipment or being disrespectful at home, school or class will not
    be permitted to test.
  • Always greet parents, teachers and instructors when you see them
  • Pay attention and listen quietly when Sensei is speaking
  • Never get mad or seek to “get someone back” your enemy is never
    in the Dojo
  • Do your best
  • Don’t be a sore loser or a rude winner
  • If you need help ask
  • Don’t interrupt
  • Focus to the front or at Sensei
  • Be honest in all you do
  • Practice!
Rules and Belts
If you fight outside the Dojo,  you will not be trained in the Dojo.
Grappling/ Jiu-Jitsu
  • Yellow belt-
    Hold and escape all four basic control positions, know Rubber Guard and Lock-down/Whip-up with at least 2
    moves from each, Quad Threat, Triangle, Rear Naked Choke, spiderweb Armbar, Americana from side
    control Min. 1 Take-Down, Back Sweep, shoot, pummel, Good base and control.
