• First ever Blue Dragon Grappling team class!
  • Demo Team at Unity fest 2005
We finally had the long awaited grappling class!  For our first ever class we had
most of the students who plan on competing in the Copa Pacifica in March. Thea,
Esai, Leo, Julian, Azis and Stephani will make up our "Leka Vieira Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
@Blue Dragon Martial Arts" team! (plus Duncan and Logan we hope)
Everyone looked great in their new Jiu-Jitsu uniforms and did an awesome job. We
got a lot of needed training and all the students got a great work-out.
Thanks for every who joined in and trained hard.
The regular Grappling class begins next week, sign-ups are on Weds. when Leka
Vieira visits.
The Blue Dragon Demo Team attended the Glendale Unity Fest for their first, big, out of school demo.
The demo came up on a weeks notice, but the team really pulled it together and did their best!
Everyone was great. Some real stars were: Thea and Stephanie with their throw, Julian with his brick
breaking, Anton and Azis with the sticks and Duncan and Logan with their take-down. Thanks to all
the parents, teachers and friends who helped make this a great event for Blue Dragon, HSH, CAP and
the kids!
  • Budo Challenge
The Budo challenge was great! We had a lot of fun. This was really the
first event we have done outside school with the CAP and HSH kids,
besides the Demo at Unityfest.
It was a very professional  set-up for a pilot TV show. There were many
great fighters from around the world, split into 2 teams (Red vs. Blue).
Our team and "jacare" won. Unfortunately, due to the fact they were
filming, it was slow going between matches. Most of the Lil'Dragons had
to go home after only a few fights, but we did all get to see a flying
triangle! VERY COOL. I think the parents all enjoyed it too. Thanks for
coming everyone.

Our next outing will be a weekend day, Jiu-Jitsu match so everyone can
stay and watch. Plus they usually have 2-3 matches going at once so no
waiting!
  • 2005 National Jiu- Jitsu Championships
Sensei Kim again entered the
Nationals. This year had a great
turn-out of women and there
were some fantastic matches,
hers was not one of them:) She
lost to a tap out. Many times
much more can be learned from
a loss than a win and Sensei
had a renewed motivation to
improve for next year! ( She did
get second place.)
  • Abu Dhabi World Submission Wrestling Championships 2005
For the first time ever the world famous Abu Dhabi came to the USA(and
included women)! The best fighters from around the world competed to
make for a great 2 day event at Long Beach State. Unfortunately it was not
a great weekend for Sensei Kim's teacher Leka Vieira as she did make it
to the finals with some great fights including defeating Gazzy Parman, but
lost to Kyra Gracie on points in the finals. 2nd place in the world ain't bad!
Leka's long time friend, Leticia Ribeiro, traveled from Brazil only to lose
her first fight. Ya just never know....Sensei Kim did get to see many other
great fights and fighters and meet both "the Iceman" Chuck Liddell and
Diego Sanchez of the Ultimate Fighter.
  • Picnic Demo and Fund Raiser
The Blue Dragon Martial Arts Demo team did an amazing demo at this years picnic. Thanks to all who helped. We also
had a drink booth to raise money for our C.A.P. Program and did quite well. Thanks to all the kids who helped sell at the
booth and the parents who donated their time.
Our first ever Parent Day went really great. The kids and
parents had a great time and I hope learned some drills to
practice at home. Thanks to everyone who came.
  • Parent Day 2005
  • Martial Arts and Crafts
  • Blue Dragon Demo for C.A.P. Cinco De Mayo
We had a great demo for Cinco De Mayo. We only had about 4 classes so everyone did a really
great job. I know many of the new Blue Dragons did a lot of weapons practice for this event, so
thank you all. The breaking and Kata also went well and the students presented Sensei Kim with a
"Thank You" card signed by all
!
  • Fall Festival Demo 11-7-04

The Lil'Dragons did a demo at Hollywood
Schoolhouse for the Fall Festival. With only one
team practice they managed to put on a great
show. The team demonstrated beginning and
advance Forms(Kata), punches, along with some
stick(Arnis) routines by students and instructors
and the crowd pleasing board breaking
    (Tomeshiwari)!
  • National American Jiu-Jitsu Championships 11-14-04

Sensei Kim entered and won Gold at this years National
American Jiu- Jitsu Championships! The match was won by
a single top advantage, so never give up! Sensei Kim has
been training at the Leka Vieira Academy for about 7
months now and is really enjoying training and competing.
She has won her first three matches for white belt, middle
    weight, women.
  • The Copa Pacifica was fun for everyone!
Congrats to all the Blue Dragon students who competed in the 9th
annual Copa Pacifica of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu! Everyone did an awesome
job doing their best and giving 100%. That is what competing is all
about. This events team consisted of Esai, Asiz, Julian and Thea.
Julian even won his first match 14-0! All students received medals and
shirts.
Parents, family and friends in attendance had a great time (even
though the wait was like 3 hours!) and supported the team.  Thanks
guys!
Leka was on hand and saw a few fights and was quite impressed. Keep
it up.
Sensei Kim also competed winning the first match 24-0 with a Tap Out
but loosing the second on points, to take Silver.

I would like to personally say how
very proud I am of you all for
competing. I was near tears a few times I was so happy. You guys are
amazing and great examples to all.
The T-shirt painting day went GREAT! We had many students from Lil'Dragons and Blue Dragons, along with parents, nannies,
and sitters to make this an awesome event. We had some very creative Blue Dragon shirts and some very professional
looking ones. Each student picked out their own iron-ons and used paints, pens and stamps to make their very own creation.
Fun was had by all, great job everyone.
Past News and Events
  • Grappling Intro Class was AWESOME!
If you missed it, BUMMER! We all had
a great time "rolling" with the Champ
and doing some drills. There were
some really great moves and some
very "interesting" moves, but all fun.
Thanks for all who came.
  • HSH Summer Party'06
Our 2nd annual pre-summer party at Hollywood School house went GREAT. We had pizza, snacks, pinats, games, cake a demo for
the parents.  The kids also turned in their sticker sheets for prizes, we traded games and books and Thea was given a special
award for all he help this year.
I want to personally say thank you to the entire Smith family for all the help, Thea for all hers and the other parents who helped too.
It was crazy with all the kids and activities I could not have done it alone.
THANK YOU ALL.
I will miss all of you that will be gone this summer but I hope to see you next year and those that will be in the summer sessions
see you soon.
  • T-Shirt Contest 06!
Our T-shirt contest shirts are here.  Most of the students
drew Blue Dragons for the contest, each class voted and the
winners from each class got their Dragon on the shirt. The
winners were Dominick from LD1, Harley from LD2 and Hannah
from BD. Thanks everyone.
The kids Ts have the Dragon drawings on the front and "Hic
Sunt Dracones" (Here be Dragons in Latin) on the back with
the website. The adults are reversed.
We will be selling these shirts to raise money for year end
pizza party. They are ONLY $5 for the regular white kids and
adult Ts.  Ringer, long sleeve or ladies Ts are only $8 and
hoodies can be special ordered for $18.This is a great way to
support the our little artists and make our party even better.
  • Pan Ams 2006
Sensei Kim entered the Pan Ams of Jiu-Jitsu for the first time and won Silver! There was a
good turn out and after winning her 2nd fight (1st was a bye) on points ending with a rear
naked choke, she lost her last fight to the gold medalist by an arm bar.
Sensei's, Leka Vieira teammate, Aubrey tied for third.
It was a great experience and the sportsmanship and comrade ere made it an amazing
event. Thanks to all the team members who helped me train, all those who came to lend
support and Leka for her teaching.
  • Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournament  June 24th.
The tournament went great. Thea and myself were the only competitors but we
had a great time. Thea had 2 amazing matches and lost the last one during
sudden death overtime to basically place 4th. I won 3 out of 4 matches to place
3rd in my division.
I hope we can get more kids training for and competing in the next tournament.
There is one in August and one in Sept.
Thea also took advantage of some great training at Leka's last week and really
learned allot from the champ.
Everyone had a great time at Pre-Summer Party 07. This year we had 2
parties!
The Wilshire party was at the Ratkovich home. It was so nice to be able to
have our party outside in the fresh air and sun. We had tons of fun playing
games like the three-legged-race and picking out prizes for our
stickers.....there are some very serious shoppers in this group! Thanks
again to the Ratkovich Family for letting us have the party at their place.
The HSH party this year was even better than last year. We had a really
nice time playing games like twister and long jump. This year we also gave
out awards and certificates. Duncan almost lost his mind when he got a
trophy for being such a great helper this year and taking class more
serious. We again had cake, pizza and a pinata. The prizes this year went
much smoother too. There was a skateboard this year and EVERYONE
wanted it. Remember save your stickers, they are like BDMA money.

We will miss everyone who will be off this summer. Keep practicing kids!
Those of you who want to continue this summer I will let you know the
schedule ASAP....and at the very least I hope to see you all next year for an
even better program.
  • Summer Party 07
  • Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Nationals  Tournament  Sept. '06
Sensei competed in the Nationals again this year and again took home
Silver. The first match was won by Sensei, on points,  after a take down
and some submission attempts from half guard. The second match was
six minutes of spider guard! Kinda slow and frustrating, Sensei lost to a
Triangle.
Next year will be Sensei's last year competing in BJJ and she hopes to
take home at least a few Golds.
