  • Pan-Ams 2007
Sensei Kim again participated in the
Pan-American of Jiu-Jitsu. This year
there were many great competitors
and this was the first year the
Pan-Ams offered No-Gi.
Sensei did great in her first No-Gi
event ever, winning her first fight
and loosing her second, to place
second with a Silver. The following
day was the Gi competition...Sensei
Kim felt great and ready to win but it
was not to be....she lost her first fight
and broke her finger!  So no medal
this year in Gi.
The Leka Vieira Women's Jiu-jitsu
Completion Team (Kris Shaw, Sense
Kim and Clarissa)  had a great time
and brought home some medals for
the team. One of Sensei's instructor,
Kris Shaw got to fight Luciana "Luka"
Tavares in a Black Belt match which
was a great honor.
Sensei also got to meet many famous
grapplers....Marcello Garcia and one
of the pioneers of women's MMA
Debbie Purcell.
Sensei is looking to do more No-Gi
training and hoping to get the kids
Grappling team competing this
summer.
  • Grappling is BACK and with a new affiliation!
That's right, the long anticipated return of our popular grappling program.  This is the all grappling class
that produced our Leka Viera/Blue Dragon team last year. We hope to have even more success and tons
of fun this year now part of the Wander Braga Team.
Our Grappling class consists of Gi (that's the special heavy uniform) and No-Gi (that's in board shorts and
a rash guard) Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with some freestyle and submission wrestling in there. It covers
everything from take-downs to control positions, to safe submissions. This class is very physical and
tons of fun for all ages and abilities. Jiu-Jitsu is great for self defense as it is often called the "gentle art"
due to there being no kicks or strikes in this art.
As mentioned above we are now affiliated with Wander Braga. For those of you who don't know Wander
he is a black belt, a Brazilian and world Jiu-jitsu champion, great instructor and really nice guy. One of his
students, just fought in the last UFC and he just signed a UFC contract himself! He will be overseeing all
training and ranking all student himself. We will be putting on "in-house" tournaments at his place in
Montrose, which is also where Sensei will now be training. Check out Wander's websites
fightforum-mma.com and wanderbraga.com for further info on our new affiliate school and instructor.
  • Wander Braga In-House Friendship Tournament '07
On Sunday Dec.9th Duncan, Leo and Julian participated in Blue Dragon's first
event in affiliation with Wander Braga Jiu-Jitsu. It was held in Upland at Wander's
studio, The Gauntlet. Even with our limited  practice time, the boys did great,
placing 2nd and 3rd. Congrats guys.
Wander has also given them permission to test for a rank in Jiu-Jitsu, this is in
addition to their rank in Blue Dragon, wow!
  • Spring Ground Fighting 08
Sensei Kim participated in the Spring Ground Fighting Tournament ( No Gi) on
March 15th. It was held in Costa Mesa, put on by Joe Morera and benefited the
Walking Tall Foundation. This was Sensei's first competition since her surgery
but all went well. All her hard training over the last few months really paid off.
She had 2 fights, the first was against a guy in her weight class and the second
was a women's open match. She won the first on points and the second by a
Kimura submission. She took home two gold medals!
Our team (Team Wander Braga) also won the first place team trophy.

Sensei would like to personally thank all the people who trained and rolled
with me at both Fight Forum and Legends/10th Planet. She would also like to
thank her instructors: Scott Epstein, Eddie Bravo and especially Wander Braga.
  • New Studio Opening in Burbank this summer!
We have finally found a perfect space! Cross your fingers, as we
still need the city to approve a parking variance, but we are
hopeful all will go well and we can start classes as soon as June!
This is in a great location at 4130 W. Burbank blvd. The building
is 2000 sqft with wonderful high ceilings, A/C, bathroom, and
dressing area. We are going to add a huge, 1500 sqft mat,
climbing wall and rope, not to mention all the cool Martial Art
stuff, Pro-shop and waiting area.
We hope to offer something for the whole family from Parent
and Me, and Pee-Wee Grappling to Cardio Kick and MMA, to our
base programs; Lil'Dragons and Blue Dragons. We are going to
even have this great space open for Birthday parties, Parent's
Night Out, Holiday Shopping Nights, Martial Arts and Crafts,
Seminars and more!
Its will be awesome and worth the wait.
